Join the Dona Ana Arts Council for an Evening of Powerful Southwestern Heritage with Yolanda Martinez, February 6, 2010

Local entertainer Yolanda Martinez has become something of a legend in Southern New Mexico, creating music that pays homage to both her Native American and Hispanic ancestors, while also touring the country spreading her message of interconnectivity with Mother Earth. Her latest production is a two-fold event, the first half promoting her latest CD release, Amor Deveras, the second half a sneak preview of Yolanda’s in-process production Honoring Of Lozen: An Apache Warrior and All Women Warriors. Yolanda Martinez will bring her latest works to the Rio Grande Theatre on Saturday, February 6, 2010.

Yolanda Martinez’ seventh release, Amor Deveras, is a mix of original tunes and classic favorites such as “Besame Mucho,” “Los Laureles” and “Llorona.” Appearing on the CD with Yolanda are her band Desert Wind and guest artist Denny Guerrero. Both will appear live, on-stage with Yolanda during the first half of her concert. In Honoring Of Lozen, Yolanda portrays the legend at ages 9, 14, 20 and as The Warrior through original songs. She will also intersperse the evening with Native American music from her various CDs, then end the set with a drumming session where she will invite her audience to join her on-stage for a drum circle and blessing.

The Rio Grande Theatre is located at 211 N. Downtown Mall, in Las Cruces. Doors open at 6:30pm and the performance begins at 7pm. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by visiting www.RioGrandeTheatre.com.
