LAS CRUCES, NM – About 1000 wrestlers are expected to pack into the Pan American Center on Jan. 23, as junior wrestlers from around the nation will compete in the 1st New Mexico National Showdown, for a chance too potentially win a tri-state championship belt.

Wrestlers ages 6-18 will compete within separate divisions for a variety of individual and team trophies and awards. The overall first place winner has a chance to win a tri-state championship belt, by also winning the Monster Match Nationals & Terminator World Championships or the Wisconsin World Championships. The tri-state championship belt is fashioned by the same company that makes the belts for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Company.

Although the event officially starts Jan. 22 with weigh-ins at Hotel Encanto from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the actual wrestling competition will take place the following day at the Pan American Center with doors opening at 7:15 a.m. and the opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m.

Wrestlers will compete in a variety of divisions based upon age and weight class. Wrestlers who do not make their pre-registered weight can be taken off the roster or asked to pay an additional $33 for re-registration in a new weight class. Pre-registered weight can be changed online up until midnight, Jan 18.

Online registration for the event is $28 before Dec. 29, $33 after Dec. 29, with the last day for pre-registration on Jan. 18, and regular registration $40 the day of weigh-ins.

Participants should bring a state issued birth certificate, as well as, a current report card for the 18 & under division, to verify proof of age in case of dispute.

Coaches will receive one, free coaches band, for a team of five wrestlers or more. Wrestlers must be registered under the same team name in order to qualify. Those that qualify for a free band must pick them up at weigh-ins. No complimentary coaches’ bands will be available after weigh-ins. Up to four free Coaches Bands are allowed and coaches who have less than five-wrestlers may purchase bands for $25 each. Coaches’ bands cover admission, finals, mat side privileges & coaching privileges.

The New Mexico National Showdown is part of a series of wrestling competitions throughout the country hosted by The Rocky Mountain Nationals Company. This is the first time the competition will be held in New Mexico. The competition is expected to provide a direct economic impact to Las Cruces of about $200,000
