Local acrylic artist chosen as artist of the month for the Convention & Visitors Bureau’s visitors lobby gallery

LAS CRUCES, NM – During the month of February, a collection of Judy Bess’s work will be on display and available for sale, in the Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau lobby, located at 211 N. Water Street.

Self-titled a contemporary colorist, Bess uses a rich variety of colors which “capture the vivaciousness and beauty of the desert southwest,” in a distinct style all her own.

After teaching art at the high school level, Bess entered the corporate world, where she spent 28 years in a variety of corporate and managerial positions. Despite being in the business world, Bess continued to cultivate her love of art by creating illustrations for a number of civic organization publications and even drawings for a children’s book.

Bess returned to painting after she retired and moved to New Mexico. Bess’s work encompasses a variety of subjects from landscapes to historic buildings and is featured in galleries in Mesilla, NM and Ozona, TX. Bess’s work can also be found in a variety of national and international private collections.

Bess received her Bachelor’s of Arts degree at Wayne State University and her Master’s of Arts degree at Oakland University. Bess has also recently studied with Annetta Hoover and Nancy Frost Begin.

Each month the Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau features artwork from a local artist in the visitors lobby gallery. The Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau is located at 211 N.
